To enable Indonesia to face the challenges of the Indonesian mining industry in the era of global competition, it needs a policy that is able to govern/regulate and develop the potential of its human resources in the industry.
The aim of governing/regulating Indonesian Professional Mining Engineers is to empower them so that they are able to compete in this era of global competition and become more involved in the mining industry within their country. It will also assure them of protection in areas such as health, work safety and professional quality.
The Association of Indonesian Mining Professionals (PERHAPI) and the Mining Division of the Indonesian Institute of Engineers (PPI) have undertaken the initiative to regulate/govern the engineering profession by implementing a certification system that is scheduled to go into effect in 2002 and compatible with the one developed by the Certification Bureau of the Indonesian Institute of Engineers (PPI).
